How can I fix my binge eating problem?

Q. I've been binge eating for about a week now. I feel really sick and uncomfortable, yet I still do it everyday. Can anyone with experience in this matter please give me some guidance? I want to fix this before I get a really serious problem and become obese.

Thanks

A. Manage stress, if you have any.
*Much like exercising, relaxation in the body tends to relieve stress and anxiety. Forms of body relaxation include yoga, bodywork (massage therapy), breathing exercises, tai chi and aroma therapy.

Get medication.
*Antidepressants can help reduce the sad feelings and anxiety that often trigger a binge and appetite suppressants may help in reducing the frequency of binges.

Self-help.
*This can be done through buying a self-help video or book, by calling a hotline for those with eating disorders or by joining a program in which anyone with binge eating disorder can come to support and encourage others.

Exercising.
*Exercise is beneficial to almost any treatment plan as it relieves stress. For those with binge eating disorder, regular fitness can reduce binge eating episodes because stress is a common trigger for binge eating.

Hope this helps!! :))

I've been binge eating for the past three days. How do I stop before I make it a complete habit?
Q. I've been really stressed out for the past days and I have been binge eating like crazy. I used to binge eat a lot, almost every day, but I got rid of the habit for the last two months or so. But ever since a couple of days ago it came back. I'm starting to build the habit again. How do I stop??? Its like in my system and I can't let it go!

A. Dude same problem right here..... Um well of course the answer everyone gives you is excercise but when Im craving that little snack cake in the pantry my mind isn't on running laps. Okay heres what Ives done. If there's nothing to do like if your bored then instead of eating the first delicious thing you see, make an effort to make something. If your hunting for that little debbie cake, go make your own. Im serious just go buy the cake mix and whatever other ingredients u need , (Iguess you could consider this some form of excercise) and go home and make it. It takes at least an hour, it has you goal oriented, and plus you feel a little form of satisfaction. Plus this will get you energized enough to get other things done of course afyter you have a bite of whatever you made. The tempatiion is not as bad. Oh another thing, I know this sounds like something an annorexic would do but make water popcicles. Freeze water ice cubes with sticks in then an it give yous something to keep your mouth occupied. Gum works too. Lol hope I helped sorry I wrote a book... but seriously you have to try it...

How can I stop myself from binge eating ?
Q. I am 5'3 114 lbs., I diet and exercise. I think the only thing stopping me from losing weight is binge eating. I binge eat when I'm nervous. I also suffer from depression, this also causes me to binge eat. PLEASE HELP. I want to lose weight but i can if I binge eat.

A. Are you the type of person who learns from books, because there are several out on emotional eating. I have the same problem.

Two things that really helped me were something I learned from the people at Overeaters Anonymous (otherwise useless for me, but this was important). It's called HALT.

Never let yourself get too Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or Tired.

Second, I learned to manage what I did eat. For some reason, when I craved sugar and crunch snacks, eating protein, especially beef jerky, satisfied something and I felt better and was able to stop the binge.

How do I stop myself from binge eating?
Q. I eat fine during the day and exercise every day, but nearly every evening I have a craving an binge on cookies and chocolate. They are always in my house and I can't stop the urge! How do I stop?

A. Stop buying them. And find an alternative. Chocolate Cheerios work wonders for me. So do Chocolatey Pretzel Special K bars.

How to stop binging eating for good?
Q. I seriously can't take it anymore... I have a goal, and that goal is to get a nice, ripped core with abs. I can't control what my mom buys at the store though. She comes home with cookies, doughnuts, ice cream, a bunch of processed junk that my body starts to crave and all the weight that I lose over the course of two weeks and the nice results that I start to see, I end up gaining every single pound of it back because of binge eating. I'm seriously so mad right now... How do I stop this?

A. I had this problem to some extent; and what helped me was to just remember how guilty and gross i felt after binging. However, you can't completely restrict yourself from the junk food, especially with it being so close to you. If you don't let yourself eat it, you'll eventually just give in and when you do you'll eat everything. If you allow yourself a tiny bit of sweets every week or so, you won't feel the urge to binge on it. Hope i helped!

How to control binge eating and lose weight around 10/5 kewl mmmmmewmmmmmmmmmz?

Q. How to control Binge eating when my mind just tries to justify it?
I tell myself oh it's ok not a big deal but it really it. Chocolate takis chips and such is not healthy food at all. I start to overeat whenever my husband goes out with his friends at night and I'm watching movies by myself and feeling lonely I guess. Also how to lose 10 more pounds? I'm 130 at 5'3" and I want to weigh 120

A. How about instead of eating junk food replace it with fruits and veggies or sugar free stuff, like yogurt, jello, pudding. And dont buy the bad stuff then you won't eat it.
And to lose 10 more pounds I'd say work out harder, maybe do a couple extra workouts.
Or eat less, try not to eat cheese, milk, or bread. You'll lose those 10 pounds.

How to control binge eating and start losing weight?
Q. I seem to think that food is like my friend or something. This is a real problem. I am 134 and yesterday I was 132,, and the week before 126.. This bing eating problem is getting out of control. I am 5'3", Female, what weight should I be for a flat stomach?also how can I stop binge eating and lose weight?

A. Not to weigh yourself on a daily basis
your weight changes for any reason form one day to the next
if you have to get on a scale do it once a week...
same day of the week and same time of the day

eat 3 meals a day and 2 snacks
or since you do binge
eat 6 small meals thoughout the day like every 2 to 3 hours
that is so you don't get hungry in between meals and possibly won't binge
no junk food, cut out sugar, eat healthy...
drinks lots of water
find some type of exercise you like to do
and do it at least 5 days of the week

who knows how much you should weigh for a flat stomach
someone might know...however I don't

btw--your weight is normal for your height

How do I keep from eating so much at supper time?

Q. I am 5'5" and 150lbs and feel most comfortable at 125. I have been Yoyo ing with my weight ever since high school! I do really good throught the day eating low calorie breakfast and lunch but as soon as i get home from work and working out I binge eat! I can't stop! I feel so guilty and I am gettin married in september and need to get this weight off and keep it off! Please help!

A. Here is something you can try. About 30 minutes before you set down to supper take a heaping spoon full of sugar in your mouth and drink a glass of water. this should kill the appetite to the extent that you won't eat as much as you normally would. Working all day and then working out has lowered your blood sugar and the brain is saying "Feed ME".

How do i stop binge eating?
Q. im not going to lie, i like to eat. i have been really depressed lately. i always seem to be eating when im bored or im getting emotional. how can i stop this binge eating? i want to lose some weight before summer so i would appreciate it if you gave me some advice on stopping my binge eating.

A. I did the same thing, only I'm in a college dorm where it's easy to sit in one spot for hours on end. After gaining 6 pounds and entering a mild depression last semester, I took some serious measures to pull it together. This is what worked:

1. Get rid of your favorite foods. Find out what you're eating the most, and get rid of it. I can't even keep cereal in my room anymore, because I would just snack on it. Replace them with foods that you still like, but are less likely to eat a lot of. Now, instead of grabbing some goldfish crackers, I open my fridge and see yogurt and apples....and cringe a little. Isn't it funny how you only want ready-made junk food when you binge??

2. Make it harder to eat. I've started stocking my fridge with food that needs to be cooked, and that simple change has just about killed my desire to eat. When you get the munchies, you don't want to defrost chicken or prep salad! You want to eat something! It's always too much of a hassle for me to cook something just to solve my momentary cravings, so I end up making a pouty sigh and finding something else to do.

3. RUN AWAY!! If you just can't handle it anymore, then go for a walk. Just wander around the block for 5-10 minutes, and not only will the fresh air lighten your mood, but it will also cure your munchies for the time being. Besides, the more that you move around, the more calories you'll burn.

How to stop binge eating everyday ?
Q. I've been so bad, I got to lose 10-15 pounds to be healthy but am binging everyday on low calorie foods like cereal bars and hot chocolate (diet kinds)... this is killing me! I'm puffy and my face is bloated from binge eating salmon and yogurt today....
I binge on "healthy" foods too.

How do I keep track of myself on weekends ? I find it so hard cos I have nothing to do and am alone in my home.... please help ? I'm losing motivation.

A. Skipping meals does not serve the purpose!
Best to go with certain foods, which are useful to our body, in moderation!
The liver has the function of neutralizing the toxins and alcohol and fat is concerned.
Foods to favor:
White meat and fish, artichokes, broccoli, carrots, tomatoes, oranges and berries.
The pancreas produces insulin to lower blood sugar levels, so we avoid the simple sugars in favor of small portions of complex carbohydrates.
Foods to favor:
Pasta, preferably wholemeal bread and rice.
The kidneys maintain stable levels of mineral salts in the blood and eat when you are forced to work too much.
Foods to favor:
oranges, clementines, bananas, because potassium-rich parsley, celery contains apiina.
The intestine, the portion of the colon, the bacteria balance, producing vitamins and eliminate toxins from poor diet and just to put it into crisis.
Foods to favor:
Apples, pears, pineapple, and I know all the chicory ..; /

I think I develop an eating disorder I would be completely obsessed with food and I have not had my period for about 8 months now.Recently I have been binge eating and then restricting my calories to 700 a day. I want to be healthy again but i am afraid of gaining so much weight that ill be overweight again.how can i maintain my weight with out gaining alot?

A. When extremes occur by design, it is not just to the outside, but to the organs as well At this point, when eating disorder is mentioned, a plan from a doctor is necessary. What has been done to blood glucose, iron or other mineral levels isn't clear without some measure. Therefore, as there is also a mental health component, it is time for medical intervention.

A. Hello Dear,

If you are having warnings signs like

-Dramatical weight loss in short period of time
-Intense fear of gaining weight
-Extreme fear of gaining weight
-Alternation in eating pattern between binges and fasts
-Depressive moods and self-deprecating thoughts following a binge

Or some physical problems like

-Low potassium. etc.

then you probably have eating disorder. You may find more online information and courses for eating disorder and can prevent your self and others before suffering. After all prevention is better than cure.

Can you be underweight or a healthy weight and have binge eating disorder?
Q. Just wondering. I'm healthy weight verging on a bit underweight and struggle with binge eating. People tend to associate it with obesity and being overweight though.

A. Hello! Binge eating is what usually causes obisity. When people binge eat its usually a sign of depression. Eating makes you feel better and takes your mind off things and can relieve boredom. Try and take notice to how you are feeling when you eat this way and get to the core of the problem. Some people eat and eat and don't gain weight however I don't think that is the focus of this situation. When you feel like sitting around eating call a friend take a walk draw a picture etc. stimulate your mind not your stomach. I hope Ive helped:)

What are the signs/symptoms of Binge Eating Disorder?
Q. How common is this eating disorder? Do you think it is good that it is now included as an official eating disorder diagnosis?

A. Binge Eating Disorder (BED) is when someone:

Binge eats (eats an objectively excessive amount of food) twice a week or more (in other words, it has become a regular occurrence)
Has been behaving in this way for a period of three months or more (so it has become a sustained problem)
Experiences a feeling of loss of control during the binges. Some many people describe going into a feeling of trance when they binge eat. Or even though they know they should stop, they just cant seem to until they have reached a point of being really uncomfortable, or even in pain, or they have simply used up all their food.
Often feels self disgust and shame about the problem.

It is often bound up with emotional and other problems, and can make a sufferers life a misery.

find out more at http://www.coping-with-binge-eating.com/binge-eating-disorder.html

(Marie - If someone vomits as well then they are suffering from Bulimia)

BED is a LOT more complicated than just regularly eating too much, and hopefully having it recognised in the psychiatric diagnostic manual DSMV will mean that people who suffer from this dreadful problem can get the proper psychiatric / psychological help needed for recovery.

Is binge eating healthy to gain weight if you are underweight?

Q. I'm 5ft 3 and 98lbs. I have been binge eating and I've gained like 2lbs every few days. I probably eat around 10,000-20,000 calories a day. No joke. My stomach hurts quite a bit sometimes. It's really, really bloated also and round. I try to balance out my diet though, so it's not like I am eating just one thing.

A. No, this is not recommended. Rapid weight gain is very hard on your heart.

Try eating normal meals, and having an Ensure twice a day, as snacks between breakfast/lunch and lunch/dinner.

If you have trouble gaining, you should get an appointment with a nutritionist, they will help you do it in a healthy way.

What should you do when you feel like binge eating?
Q. I'm not fat or anything, I'm actually leaning towards being underweight. However, I have a problem with binge eating out of nervousness. Any advice?

A. Hi Peter,
Sounds like you need to learn to deal with your nervousness in other ways instead of using food. Take care of the underlying problem and the binge eating will take care of itself.
Take a look at these pages about dealing with stress:
http://www.coping-with-binge-eating.com/dealing-with-stress.html
and about emotional eating:
http://www.coping-with-binge-eating.com/emotional-eating.html

Dealing with your emotions in more self caring ways (different things would suit different people â from going out for a walk, phoning a friend, keeping a journal, reading a book, having a bath, playing with a petâ¦.etc), and getting involved in activities that increase your confidence and self esteem, can all help increase our coping abilities for the long-term.

How long does it take for metabolism to normalize after an eating disorder?
Q. I am beginning recovery for my bulimia. I'm a nonpurging bulimic meaning that I binge and then overexercise and fast to compensate for all the calories (stupid idea!). I lost 20 lbs doing this and became quite underweight but I have managed to gain weight back and am 5"6 and 125 lbs.

I'm really uncomfortable at this weight and would like to lose about 5-7 lbs, the healthy way and I know it won't as fast as it did with my other crazy regime. I am eating about 6 times day, no more binge eating on high cal foods, and I am not depriving myself. I also have limited myself to an hour and 15 mins of exercise a day, 7 days a week, which may still seem a little much. How long do you think it would take me to lose 5-7 lbs doing it this way? I do not want to weigh less than 118, I have a lot of muscle and once I get down to around 120, I begin to look too skinny.

Thanks!

A. Up to three months
