People with eating disorders: What videos would you like to see?

Q. I have a channel on Youtube dedicated to eating disorder awareness and recovery.
www.youtube.com/NoThinspo
What are some videos you would like to see? I have "My Eating Disorder Story," "How to Tell Your Parents You Have an Eating Disorder," "Psychology of Calorie Restriction" (posting this one tonight), and "Tips to Stop Calorie Counting" (posting tonight). Anything else you would like to see?

A. A video that raises awareness that eating disorders can occur at ALL weights- when I was first ill I didn't believe I had an ED because I wasn't thin and so didn't feel able to seek help... I also see it soo many times on here, people believing their not ill because they don't have an anorexic BMI.

Another thing would be some stuff on the binge/purge cycle- some tips on how to break it... and maybe something on why laxatives DON'T work and perhpas the general dangers of all the common behaviours.

Just some ideas- keep up the good work! :)

My sister has Binge Eating Disorder! Is there any way I can help her?
Q. Like the question says, my sister has this ED: http://www.epigee.org/mental_health/binge.html And I was wondering if there were any tips or anything that I could use to help her...she's 17...
Our parents made her quit therapy. They said that she wasn't losing weight or anything so they made her quit and not get any more. They don't think it's a real problem.

A. The best thing you can do is offer her your support through her recovery.

She does have to want help in order to get it, but professional help is the only real thing that's going to help her recover at the moment. And it does take a lot of time, she will have slip ups, it won't be easy for her. We take food for granted, but she's going to have a big issue with it for a long time, so just keep that in mind and try your best to be sensitive to how she is feeling when it comes to food.

Google for your nearest Eating Disorder organisation, something that will give you, your sister and your family more information on the disease and will help you all get through it. Because it does effect more than just her. Take care.

How is recovery from Bulimia even possible?
Q. I have been bulimic for the past 3 years and it is getting to the point where i am constantly ill and i feel like a complete failure all the time.

I have tried to eat healthily, but i always end up binging which leads to purging.. which makes me get into the destructive cycle again.

It also doesn't help, being overweight as it is.. whenever someone makes any kind of remark about my weight, it makes me hate myself and binge and purge more.

I have been seeing a psychologist for other issues (anxiety disorder, depression, self-harm), but i dont see how she could help me with my Bulimia.

It is such a stubborn illness that has embedded itself into my identity... i dont even remember what my like was like before i started thinking about food every second of the day.

Will i ever recover?.. it just feels so helpless right now.

A. currently being bulimic for almost a year i can kinda see what you mean
I'm not losing any weight either
and I'm getting sicker and grouchier by the day
but I don't think bulimia can be entirely cured. It can be stopped, but it will always be there with you, the whole low self esteem and everything
what you need is a group of supportive friends. if they don't already know about it, then tell them and they'll be there
guaranteed
book yourself into a clinic and get some tips from other people with the same problem. eating disorders aren't exactly popular
good luck with everything though
have a nice life.
