How can I lose 5 stone whilst battling an eating disorder?

Q. I have suffered with a binge eating disorder for several years and am now really struggling to lose any weight at all. I want to lose 5 stone in total but do not have a time limit. I can't stick to any diets cos of my eating disorder and my weight is stopping me exercising as I get so out of breath and in pain very quickly. HELP!!!!!!!

A. Getting help and beginning to recover from your binge eating disorder will be the largest factor in whether or not you will be able to lose weight. Generally, as a person overcomes his or her binge eating disorder, it becomes easier and easier to lose weight, but first you should focus on overcoming your eating disorder so that then you can lose weight more easily.
Overcoming an eating disorder is a very difficult process, and it will help you a lot to understand and deal with your eating disorder if you have professional help. Go to your doctor and explain about your eating disorder, then ask for recommendations to a psychologist and nutritionist specializing in eating disorders. You may also want to look in your area to see if there are any eating disorder support groups.
With your nutritionist, try to make a structured meal plan that will keep you full and prevent binging. Try to eat regularly, and measure out portion sizes, knowing beforehand how much of a food you want to have before you begin to eat it. Stick to foods that are lower in calories, such as fruits, vegetables, light breads, lowfat dairy and lowfat meat products. Avoid products high in fat or products that are very sugary, as these are usually higher in calories. Make sure that you stay hydrated, and make an effort to exercise regularly.
When you think that you may be about to binge, try to do something to distract yourself. Take a walk, listen to music, read a book, call a friend, take a nap, play a distracting game like tetris or minesweeper, do a crossword puzzle or sudoku - anything to keep your mind off food. Remember that weight loss doesn't happen instantly - 1/2 to 1 pound of weight loss per week is a healthy goal.

How can I stop myself from binge eating?
Q. For like the last four or five months my eating habits have been all over the place. I go through periods of time where I will restrict my calories and other times when I just can't stop eating. I know that part (or all) of the reason I binge eat is because of stress, boredom, or because I have been restricting my food to the point where I am so hungry I start eating uncontrollably. The problem is I can't seem to help myself and don't know how to stop binge eating. What can I do?

A. First of all, don't beat yourself up about it. Everyone has a binge every once in a while, but you can do a lot to prevent it.

I'd suggest eating 5 or 6 small meals a day (about 300 calories each). This is eating every few hours so you know you never have to wait long for your next meal. Make them healthy and filling. There's many resources online and in cookbooks for making tasty small meals. Drink water + tea or coffee the majority of the time, not pop or milk. This may feel weird for the first few days, but after a while your stomach will understand and as long as you plan ahead, it is a great diet to maintain. It's how I lost 10 lbs the healthy way.

Also, write down everything you eat (everything!). When you feel like snacking/binging, look at your food journal and think - should I eat anything more right now?

At night time, brush your teeth not long after your last meal (or cup of tea). When your teeth are clean and fresh you won't want to eat. I find this helpful because when I snack badly it tends to be at night. I also try to remember how I will feel the next morning when I step on the scale and think "wow, I wasn't even hungry and now I have to work that much harder to get rid of my boredom eating".

How can I keep myself from binge eating?

A. Some Advice...
#Don't Calorie Count.
#Like the other reply PLENTY OF WATER
#Space out your food through the day fairly, so you're not starving for the next feed.
#Make your meals enjoyable, don't have to be bland
#Put in a cheat meal every 5th day
#If you do binge/ plan the binge...then dont eat anything else for the day to add more damage
#If you gave in to a bad feed, have an extra workout so at least you done something to counter it
#If you binge, do it EARLY in the day, NEVER late before BED.
