How much will I lose if I eat 500 cals a day?

Q. I weigh 166 (give or take) i play soccer and lost 20 pounds since I started but I'm starting to gain it all back!! Please don't preach I don't wanna hear it. How long will it take to lose 30-40 pounds? I'll pick best answer! But don't tell me not to do it please :) I'll exercise too and eat a little more when I have soccer game/practices and how do u not gain it back when you're done? Do you go up by like 100 calories a week? A month? Is it impossible to maintain it? Help and I'll answer yours!! And I'm 5'6 (again, give or take)

A. I'm gonna tell you how to lose the weight. You HAVE TO eat healthy and exercise. There is simply no way to lose that much weight without a healthy balance of exercise and calories. Eat things that are high in good calories, not bad calories. If you eat a brownie and exercise, it'll be harder to burn off than an avocado or bowl of nuts.

Things high in protein will sustain you. You should be eating around 1500 - 2000 calories a day - if you eat 500 calories a day you'll lose any muscle tone you may have and you'll become malnourished. You might also develop side effects such low iron anemia, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), vitamin deficiencies, electrolyte deficiencies, and loss of energy.

If you do eat 500 calories a day, the minute you stop and return to a normal diet you'll gain any weight you might have lost back. You're also more susceptible to food binges due to hunger throughout the day. The easiest way to lose weight? Eat a diet with foods rich in protein, iron and vitamins. Try to have lean meat and veggies a few times a week. Exercise as often as you can - for some people this is twice a week, others it's everyday.

A healthy lifestyle = a healthy weight. An unhealthy lifestyle = an unhealthy weight (over or under) and a life full of health problems.

how to have a healthy snack without bingeing?
Q. i eat very healthy at lunch with things like celery, carrots and my fruits and some carbs. but then when i get home after school i eat a snack but often binge on it. like ill have a cereal bar but then afterwards eat a whole lot more even if im not hungry. i need advice on how to have a healthy snack and not overdo it. i want to learn healthy eating habits. i have swim practice everynight so i need something energizing. i LOVE dried fruit, will that help?

A. I wish those people would stop advertising on here...jeesh...forget about the colon cleansing.

Anyway...I don't think your'e eating enough during the day and that's why you're starving when you get home. You need to eat a breakfast and a lunch...not just celery, carrots. Where's the protein?

Have an egg, toasted wheat or whole grain bread...orange juice, milk or some cereal with fiber.

At lunch get your protein in there, too...make a tuna sandwich or a stuffed tomato filled with tuna, a salad with some protein in it (hard boiled eggs, cooked chicken pieces).

Then be sure to have dinner. Getting enough fiber is very important as well as taking a multi-vitamin so you don't have any deficiencies (like lacking B-12 that gives you energy).

Eating "healthy" does not mean starving yourself---especially since you are athletic and can burn off calories fast. Eat your meals and save those pieces of fruit for snacks in between. And eat the carbs! You need the energy!

How long does it take bulimia to cause health problems?
Q. Hi, I'm 20 years old and have been an vomiting type bulimic for almost 3 months or so. I'm pretty sure it started a long time ago but it only became a constant at that point. I'm wondering how long it take for this to cause problems in the body because I skipped my period this month and I developed a uti which my research says could arise from bulimia. Does anyone know if this could be related or am I being paranoid?

A. Both internal and external damage from Bulimia begins immediately.

Immediately.

UTIs and kidney infections are most commonly caused by infrequent urination due to a lack of fluids in the body. When the renal (urinary) system is not functioning correctly - ie: not being "flushed out" regularly - an overgrowth of bacteria occurs which causes infection. In your case, the dehydration your body is enduring has almost certainly been caused by repeated self-induced vomiting.

Yes, irregular and/or absent periods can be experienced in women with Bulimia; even without any changes in weight. Stress, for one, is very powerful in altering the body's natural functions. Emotional stress comes hand-in-hand with Bulimia (and every other Eating Disorder), and then there's the physical stress caused by regular binge/purge episodes. Mental stress is also a given when trying to cope with these illnesses. Vitamin and mineral deficiencies due to repeated vomiting and malnourishment can greatly affect hormone levels.

I don't think you are aware of how much danger you are in as a direct result of your Bulimia. Are you aware that your "paranoia" is the Eating Disorder talking? Any thoughts, whatsoever, running through your mind that try to justify why your behaviours aren't out of control, aren't serious enough, aren't doing any damage and so on are NOT rational thoughts. Bulimia is a destructive, cunning and malicious mental illness and I sincerely hope you are currently receiving therapy (or have taken every possible measure to do so) because this is not something to be taken lightly.
