A. Overall, lifetime prevalence estimates are 0.6% for anorexia nervosa, 1.0% for bulimia nervosa, and 2.8% for binge-eating disorder. Risk is up to 3 times higher in women vs. men.
Research suggests that about four percent (4%), or four out of one hundred, college-aged women have bulimia. About 50% of people who have been anorexic develop bulimia or bulimic patterns.
Many surveys indicate that only about 10% of people with anorexia and bulimia are male.
More than half of teenaged girls are, or think they should be, on diets. They want to lose all or some of the forty pounds that females naturally gain between 8 and 14. About three percent of these teens go too far, becoming anorexic or bulimic.

How to Control My Eating?
Q. I just eat and eat and eat...Im not like obese but im 13 and im short for my age so even when i gain a pound its extremely noticeable. I go to the gym but that's not working alone. I mean I eat even when im not hungry and can't control myself! What should i do?!
I've actually started basketball so do you think that will help at all?
Im also a girl...idk if that makes a difference

A. you might be developing an eating disorder called binge eating, it's like bulimia except you don't purge the food once you've eaten it. there are tons of self help groups for that sort of thing, as it is a common illness. since your only 13 try telling your parents that you are helpless around food and seeing if theres anyway you can control what they buy (ie. only healthy, low cal foods)

also, people tend to eat more when they are alone. so if you are home alone - go for a walk and try to get away from the food. also, after everyone goes to bed at night don't be downstairs yourself or you may be tempted to raid the fridge. dont confuse boredom with hunger and always drink two big glasses of water before you snack, that way you fill your stomach and will eat less.

of course, have three meals a day and snack as much as you'd like - better remember quality vs. quantity. foods with empty nutritional value like chocolate and chips will leave you more hunger than a piece of steak or a fruit salad.

Bulimia vs. Binge Eating Disorder?
Q. If someone is binge eating, and they follow it by fasting, is that bulimia or binge eating disorder?

A. Ahhhh lets get into this shall we?
Bulimia is purging food. That can be through throwing up, laxatives, chewing and spitting, over exercising after large meals, and in your case fasting.
Anorexia is where you limit what you eat until you binge, but your binge is what a normal person would normally eat so its not a actual "binge." Though anorexics can have large binges, it is not a weekly occurrence like Bulimics.
ENDOS (Eating disorder not yet specified) is any other eating disorder, A women COULD be anorexic, but if she is not underweight she is not considered an "anorexic," so would be classified under ENDOS. Binge eating followed by fasting is also a ENDOS if no other methods are used to get rid of the food in your body. Though it is 100% an eating disorder, its just not the black and white "anorexia" or "bulimia"

I would classify you as a ENDOS binge eater with bulimic tendencies.
