How can I stop binge eating in the early hours of the night?

Q. I'm trying to loose weight and am a binge eater. I'm finding it particularly hard to stop these cravings at night. It is for sweet food. I am fully awake and know what I'm doing but I can't help myself. I can't eat it fast enough and won't be satisfied until I eat it. I eat 3 healthy meals a day with snacks in-between and have something sweet after tea to satisfy my sweet tooth which seems to work. However, I cannot control myself at night. Please note that I am severly depressed and on medication

A. Hi Katie. I know how hard this can be. Especially at night. How can i lose the weight that i gained binge eating?
Q. I binged a whole lot this month and i must have gained 10lbs, alot of people i know have binged for over a month and suddenly stopped and gone back to their normal eating routine and actually lost around 10ls in 2 weeks, how does that work? They don't diet or workout all they did was stop binging is that supposed to happen?

A. The body is always working for health and balance. It's an AMAZING machine. But like anything is complex in how it works and this can take a little time to get to know and understand.

One thing that will help is to focus on what you CAN consume rather than what you cannot.

Drinking more water will help in many ways and is worth reading up about. There is a good book called The Water Cure that has some worthwhile information. I have found that drinking 3L of water per day and thereby replacing a lot of unhealthy liquids is an excellent habit to establish and practice as it has an amazing effect on my physique.

Avoiding eating even just for the four hours prior to going to sleep is another good place to start. Try to consume your calories at other times in the day.

Move your biggest muscles for at least 20 minutes per day. This means your legs. Move them.

There is plenty more to learn. Take your time in learning and be gentle with yourself.

Best of luck with your preparations toward achieving your goals.

How long does it take to put on some weight after binge eating for 3 days?
Q. When can I weigh myself to understand effect of this binge, considering everything else (workout, etc) remains exactly same?

A. Weigh yourself at the same time each day.

A binge for three days won't have much effect, unless it's a big one.

An extra 1500 cals a day would be noticeable, just, and you'd gain just over a pound. Normally we eat about 2000-2500, so try 3500-4000. Or more, just don't hurt yourself. Binging for long periods would make you very fat very quickly, though. After all, in seven weeks you'd gain over a stone.

Binge on health food, too. Avocado, potatoes, and sunflower seeds are all healthy, but strangely fattening. Peanut butter too, but I don't trust it. I hear it's a bit carcinogenic. Fruit juice, milkshakes and cola can also cause weight gain. 8glasses of water daily, or it won't stick so well.

A bmi of 20-25 is considered healthy. 25/26 is chubby, but lives longest. If you continue this, don't go over 26 if you can avoid it. If you're very muscular, you can go over, but not too far.
