How and where do I get help for an eating disorder?

Q. I've had binge eating disorder for 3 years now, and I'm done. It's only getting worse and I need help. Where do I go for help and how much would it cost? Also how do I do this without my parents finding out (I'm 18, going to college in the fall). My parents absolutely can't know, I'd rather keep living with my disorder than telling them, so please don't suggest anything of the sort.

A. Hello :)
I found an article entitled, "Do I Have An Eating Disorder?"
You already know the answer to that questions since you said you've been dealing with this for 3 years.
But this article doesn't only help you identify whether you have one or not, it helps you "take action" (as they word it) and get help.

Let me just say that I think it is very mature & smart of you to decide you need to stop! That's a good sign that this may not be as hard as it would be for others who deny they have a problem all together.

I'm going to paste a section of this article in here, just to get you started.
It's under the subheading, "Take Action Now"

Take Action Now!

The first step is to admit to yourself that you have a problem. âAfter thinking about it,â Danielle says, âI realized that I had the same feelings and habits as girls with anorexia. It was scary to come face-to-face with the fact that I did the same things that they did.â

Next, pray about your plight.% Implore him for insight as to what is behind your disorder so that you can conquer it. You can pray as did David: âSearch through me, O God, and know my heart. Examine me, and know my disquieting thoughts, and see whether there is in me any painful way, and lead me in the way of time indefinite.â

On the other hand, you might find that you are reluctant to leave your eating disorder behind. You may have become dependent on it, much like an addiction. This is another matter to take in prayer. That is what Danielle had to do. âAt first,â she admits, âI didnât really want to recover. So I had to pray for the desire to get better.â

(Pay EXTRA ATTENTION To this part (: )Third, talk to a parent or other adult who is in a position to help you. Caring adults will not shame you. Rather, they will strive to imitate God, of whom the Bible states: âHe has neither despised nor loathed the affliction of the afflicted one; and he has not concealed his face from him, and when he cried to him for help he heard.

I hope all this will help you & that you will read this article in your spare time. I really think it will help. I hope everything gets better for you!!

Is it possible to only spend 5k for a 2 month trip through Europe?
Q. I'm 19 and next summer I plan on traveling to Europe and exploring for about 2 months. I'm a college kid who lives at a dorm, so I know how to cut corners with saving money. I'm planning on staying at youth hostels and binge eating their free breakfast and eating bread etc throughout the day. Is it possible to get away with 5,000 US?

What are some other tips to save money in Europe? Thanks!

A. I went to Euro in 02 backpacking and had a similar goal to keep things as cheap as possible and stay as long as I could. I spent over 3 grand in 23 days, including my plane ticket and train tickets.

I think 5 is a little low for two months.

Some things we did to save money were buy a jar of peanut butter and bread that can last you for a bit. Also some hostels will have places you can make ramen noodles.

Not eating I think doesnt work. Your morning meal is usually something small. After that you have to remember your walking a lot and pretty much everywhere unless you have public transit available. Your going to need a afternooon meal at least to help keep your energy up. European people walk a lot and you will be doing the same you will need your energy.

If you have to travel a ways by train try to get a night train. When I went i never got a chance to but if you can you get to sleep and can save on a hostel for 1 night.

I know RyanAir use to have really good deals on flights. I heard of people paying 20 bucks plus taxes and could fly lots of places in europe.

I was with someone so I dont know how it would work alone but my friend and i would sleep at train stations or airports when we got there and try to stay up for a day to save on hotel. This worked for us sometimes but we could watch each others things while the other slept.

Since your a student you can get a student somethign or other card. It will give you discounts on certain things. I know trains give a student rate .....so its always good to ask if they give a student discount. I dont remember what the card was called though.

Last thing i can think of is if your planning on not eating a lot remember you will lose weight fast and you will need a belt. Unless your already a skinny guy then your probably good.

I think 5 could be a little low. You will probably end up getting things you never thought of buying.

How to reduce weight gain while drinking alcohol?
Q. We all know alcohol is probably the worst thing while on a diet but being in college it's tough to avoid.
I already plan on drinking miller chill which only has 100 calories per bottle, drinking a bunch of water before bed and not binge eating once I get home. Is there anything else I could do to minimize weight gain while drinking?

A. No. I think you have to stop drinking. I don't know if you are an addict or you just drink once in awhile, but I want to let you know that if you drink to mutch all the time your kidneys can fail. I'm only telling you because my dad drank alot and his kidneys might fail and he may die soon. So when ever I hear someone that's drinking I get scarred for them. I hope I helped you alittle at least
